What is Earl Grey Goût Russe tea?

Around the many legends on the tea and Earl Grey, the Russian Taste also has its share of mysteries.
It is difficult to speak about the Russian Taste without evoking the samovar. Closely linked to the tea ritual for centuries in Russian culture, the samovar is a symbol of a warm welcome, and above all it allows to get a quality tea, always ready, at any time.
The lower part of the samovar is used to boil water; the upper part, the teapot, is used to prepare a concentrate of tea which is served by diluting it with hot water, thanks to the tap in the lower part. The small teapot, placed on the samovar, keeps the tea warm. Thus, the samovar allows each user to obtain a concentrated tea according to his desires, by adding more or less water in his cup.
It should be noted that the Russians had not yet adopted green tea, nor white tea, and the teas consumed in Russia were essentially black teas from Darjeeling, China, Iran ....

What citrus fruits are used in Earl Grey Goût Russe tea?
At the end of the 19th century, the Russian aristocracy, vacationing on the shores of the Black Sea, took the habit of pressing an orange in this concentrated tea to give it a sweeter taste and bring more freshness.
Depending on the season, the orange could be replaced by a lemon, and sometimes the two citrus fruits were mixed.
At the time, to make this drink sweeter, a lot of sugar was usually added.
This recipe quickly made the rounds in Europe and America and became known as "Russian tea".
The Earl Grey Goût Russe tea is composed of black tea, bergamot, orange and lemon. Depending on the tea house, the Earl Grey Goût Russe has more or less orange, or more or less lemon. At Compagnie & Co, the recipe is always a perfect balance between a blend of black tea and quality essential oils.
This blend benefits from our steam flavouring process, find all the information about our unique know-how right here.
To reinforce the taste of citrus fruits, we add orange and lemon peels, which during the infusion release very light bitter flavours.
