What are the characteristics of Boudoir tea?
Since 1848, Compagnie & Co has been crafting unique, homemade tea blends.
In 1887, we developed the Boudoir blend—an exclusive recipe combining three exceptional teas with a hint of bergamot.
What does this famous Boudoir black tea contain?
First, Darjeeling tea—arguably the most renowned tea from India. As its name suggests, it comes from the Darjeeling region in West Bengal.
This high-altitude area on the slopes of the Himalayas offers ideal conditions for growing tea plants (Camellia sinensis).
Darjeeling tea is known for its distinctive muscat-like flavor.
In recent years, Darjeeling has become a protected designation, recognized for its exceptional quality.
Next, Boudoir tea includes Ceylon tea.
This tea comes from Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon—hence the name.
The country is famous for its vast tea plantations and is one of the world’s largest tea producers.
Ceylon tea is characterized by well-defined leaves and a fairly strong taste due to its tannin content, with subtle chocolatey notes.
Boudoir tea also contains Assam tea.
This tea, also from India, comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, specifically the assamica variety. As its name suggests, it is grown in the Assam region, bordering Bangladesh and Myanmar.
The region’s unique climate, especially its heat and high humidity during the monsoon gives the tea its bold, spicy, and tannic character.
Assam tea is commonly used in “Breakfast” blends, as its strength makes it ideal for an energizing start to the day.
Finally, to enhance the blend, we add a touch of bergamot—the iconic citrus fruit found in Earl Grey teas. It brings a subtle aromatic note for a refined and enjoyable tasting experience. Discover our flavored teas as well.
How to serve Boudoir tea?
To fully enjoy your Boudoir tea, we recommend steeping 2 grams of tea for 3 minutes in water heated between 85°C and 90°C.
But as always, the secret to a great tea is to enjoy it your way. For a lighter taste, shorten the infusion time; for a stronger, more bitter result, extend it.
This tea is perfect for the morning—thanks to the presence of Assam and its bold notes, it’s ideal for breakfast.
