Bergamot is a citrus fruit native to Italy that looks like a slightly dented lime. It comes from the bergamot tree, a plant that grows mainly in Calabria (Italy). The flesh of the bergamot is slightly acid and bitter. The peel diffuses a very powerful perfume it is what differentiates it from other citrus fruits.
This particular smell is due to the richness in essential oil of the bergamot peel. This essential oil loaded with flavor so characteristic is also what is most sought after in this fruit.

We advise you to let it infuse for 3 minutes in simmering water between 85° and 90°C.

Where does Earl Grey Gourmand tea come from?
Earl Grey tea is a classic and has a true, funny story.
The origins of Earl Grey tea are Chinese and closely linked to Earl Charles Grey, Also at the beginning of the 19th century, while holding the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Earl Grey would have gone to China for a diplomatic trip.
During his stay, he would have saved a young Chinese from drowning and the father of the latter would have decided to offer a gift to the English nobleman: the recipe of a bergamot tea.
Back in England, Charles Grey would have tested the tea recipe that had been given to him and he and his wife would have loved what they tasted. They gave this delicious blend to their friends and family who appreciated it as much as they did.
They gave the recipe to several British tea companies and asked them to reproduce it. It was a great success and Earl Grey is nowadays a tea appreciated all over the world.
