History of the Gunpowder
You have already heard of the Gunpowder haven't you?
This tea is the most used to make mint tea and organic mint tea! Does that sound familiar?
Do you know why this tea is called Gunpowder? Simply because its small leaves rolled into a ball look like gunpowder.
Gunpowder is a green tea from China. Its elaboration respects an ancestral know-how where each step is repeated for hundreds of years.
Here are the steps of the Thé Gunpowder making process:
- Harvest: Like all teas, Gunpowder comes from the Camellia Sinensis plant. The leaves are traditionally harvested by hand. To make Gunpowder, only the first and second leaves are picked.
- Kneading: to release the aromas, the leaves are energetically kneaded just after harvesting.
- Fixing: to interrupt the natural oxidation of the leaf, it is put under a heat source. This step allows to fix the aromas in the heart of the leaf. It also allows to keep a beautiful green color.
- The rolling: after the fixing, the leaves are rolled, this is what makes the singularity of Gunpowder tea! Then the leaves are definitely dried to be exported to the 4 corners of the world!

Advice for using Thé Vert Gunpowder
The tea leaves are quite sensitive, we advise you to let infuse 2 grams of tea thinking 3 minutes in a simmering water between 80° and 85°C. Be careful, a too hot water could burn the tea leaves!
But we can't repeat it enough: the secret of a good tea is to enjoy it above all! If you prefer a more subtle result, you can shorten the infusion time. On the other hand, if you like a stronger tea, you can increase the brewing time!
For a green tea with mint you can choose our Thé Vert Menthe but you can also brew fresh mint leaves in our Gunpowder and enjoy a thirst-quenching drink!
To enjoy the full stimulating effects of tea, we recommend that you enjoy your gunpowder in the morning or early afternoon. This way, its theine content will not be an obstacle for your sleep.
